Adding just five words to the end of any AI prompt completely eliminates the frustrating back and forth that wastes most people's time

If you’re an AI chatbot user who often finds themselves stuck in a time-consuming back-and-forth, then adding just five words to your prompt could make a big difference.
Millions of people use chatbots to give them a hand with a whole heap of tasks, from writing emails to fixing their cars.
And while chatbots can be super helpful, they can also get a little bit frustrating, between AI hallucinations and occasionally getting trapped in a long conversation before finally hitting on the answer.
Thankfully, there are some things you can do to get smarter responses – and it’s probably easier than you think.

Adding just five words to your prompt could save a lot of time
The key to getting the most out of an AI chatbot is prompting correctly.
Fortunately, there are plenty of savvy AI users who have shared ideas like the ‘three-word’ prompt or this one that will get the chatbot to tear apart its own reasoning.

Another smart prompt that has popped up online is aimed at cutting through long conversations with ChatGPT or Claude before you finally get your answer.
For example, if you asked your AI bot to suggest some local restaurants for dinner, you’ll likely get sent a bunch of suggestions, but none of them hit the mark.
So you’ll go back to the bot and tell it that you’re looking for ‘somewhere cheap’ or ‘somewhere that does kids meals’ – and you’ll again get a list, but again these aren’t quite right either, maybe they have bad reviews or are too far away, meaning you have to keep narrowing down that list until you finally get what you want.
To cut through all of this, you can simply add the words ‘ask me five clarifying questions first’.
Now, this doesn’t need to be five; you could tell it to ask seven or even 10 – but if time saving is your goal, then five is a solid place to start.
This time around, the AI bot will ask you five questions that’ll help you get closer to the answer.
Using the example above, ChatGPT asked us for our location, cuisine preferences, budget, vibe, as well as timing and group – all of which will help it generate a much better response, rather than a long list of options that don’t quite fit the bill.
Go back and edit your original AI prompt, and you’ll see far better responses
Once you have got your list of clarifying questions from your chatbot, don’t respond in the chat.
According to tech expert Nicole Leffer, this can lead to confusion later down the line and mean you get weaker responses.

Instead, go to your original prompt and find the Edit Prompt button.
Go back in, delete the line that says, ‘ask me five clarifying questions first,’ and then add in all of those clarifying details to your prompt and resubmit it.
Using this little tweak should see you get far better responses in the future and save you a lot of time going back and forth.
