US gamer introduces obscure Amazon console you've likely never seen that costs less than $100 and gives his honest thoughts

A US man bought a largely unheard of Amazon ‘console’ for less than $100 and decided to see how it compared to the rest.

Console gamers aren’t exactly spoiled for choice when it comes to options, with Xbox and PlayStation pretty much dominating.

However, for those looking for something different, there’s a ‘sort of’ console made by Amazon that costs under $100 and comes with plenty of game options.

But is it actually any good? Well, YouTuber Jacob R bought one to find out, and then shared his honest opinions.

Amazon makes a ‘sort of’ console that is cheap to buy and easy to set up

Even if you’re a commited gamer, you’d be forgiven for not even knowing that Amazon had entered the gaming world.

But it did back in 2020, with Amazon Luna.

Luna itself is a cloud-based gaming platform, which you can access via your Fire TV Stick

However, you can also purchase a Luna controller which makes it feel more like a legit console alternative, which is what Jacob R did.

However, you don’t need to use the official Luna controller, as the service supports third-party controllers, so you can use you Xbox Wireless Contorller or DualSense controllers, you can even turn your phone into a controller.

In a recent video he explained that he spent less than $100 on the Luna controller and Fire TV Stick.

The controller itself looks almost identical to the Xbox Series X controller, with the YouTuber commenting on its comfortable grip and texture.

However, he was less impressed than the cheap-feeling D-pad and some odd-looking indent on the joysticks.

It was reasonably straightforward to set up, both Luna and the controller.

And once he was in, there was a decent selection of games in the library including Skyrim, Fall Out 4, and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

Luna comes with around 95 games included with your Amazon Prime subscription, and you can upgrade to Luna Premium for $9.99 a month, which will boost that to 155 games.

There’s also the option to buy individual games.

You might not have heard of it, but is it worth finding out more?

After playing around with Amazon Luna, Jacob had fairly mixed feelings.

He was impressed with the ‘games night’ feature, which allows a bunch of people to play along together in one room, and looked like a lot of fun.

But it wasn’t all good, because Luna is purely cloud-based there can be issues with lagging, which is something Jacob experienced.

He also some problems with the controller’s jittery cursor movement which made it hard to use, and he wasn’t won over by the selection of games.

So, would he recommend it?

“Overall, I’d say it’s decent if you have a Prime account and a Fire Stick, you might as well play it, it’s included,” he said.

“Otherwise, probably pass on it.”
