As Apple turns 50, the foldable iPhone and a relaunched AI suggest its biggest chapter is still ahead

Half a century ago this week, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne founded Apple, and the rest is history… or not quite, because the forward-thinking company has some exciting things lined up.

Launched on April 1, 1976, it has since gone on to become one of the most successful companies of all time with an estimated value of around $4 trillion.

The company’s first ever product was Wozniak’s Apple I computer, but has since gone on to create some of the most exciting and innovative products ever made.

But with 50 years under its belt, it’s showing no signs of slowing down and is rumored to have some very interesting products in its future,

Apple is rumored to be getting ready to launch some cool new tech

Apple has been responsible for some of the biggest tech releases of all time, thanks to the likes of the iPhone and iPod.

In fact, the company is currently the largest producer of smartphones in the world.

Last September, Apple released the iPhone 17 family alongside its ‘thinnest and most durable’ iPhone yet.

This was followed by some new tech drops in March, including its most affordable MacBook ever

But according to reports, the company isn’t resting on its laurels and is quietly working away on some cool new products.

As ever, the tech giant likes to keep tight-lipped about upcoming releases, but it’s been widely speculated that a foldable iPhone will be arriving later this year.

A tech leak has revealed that the rumored iPhone will feature a 7.8-inch main display when unfolded and a 5.5-inch cover display in a book-style design.

Apple is also reported to be working on a new higher-end range of products, which will include the foldable phone.

Currently, the Pro range is the top of the shop when it comes to Apple products, but a report from earlier this month claimed a new ‘Ultra’ range is on the horizon.

This range would include the next-generation AirPods, and a high-performance MacBook with its own touchscreen.

As you might expect, AI is also set to be a big feature

Apple was one of the first major companies to launch a digital assistant, after it released Siri on the iPhone 4 in 2011.

However, despite being one of the first, Apple has struggled to compete with AI-powered helpers, even with the launch of Apple Intelligence in 2024.

In January, it announced a deal with Google to bring Gemini to the iPhone

It had been rumored that Apple was working away on its own AI chatbot, but recent reports suggest that, rather than a proprietary bot, it will be opening Siri up to a number of third-party AI models, including ChatGPT and Claude.

The reports claim the updates will come with the launch of iOS 27.

Currently, Apple Intelligence offers some very neat features, including a real-time translation service through its AirPods.

And it looks as though the tech giant could be leaning into AI wearables.

As far back as July 2024, there have been reports that the company is planning on fitting cameras into its AirPods to boost their AI capabilities by allowing them to ‘see’ the world around the wearer.

There has also been speculation that it is working on some AI-powered smart glasses that would be more similar to the Meta Ray-Bans than the Vision Pro, and a small wearable pin that acts like a real-life AI buddy.

So, with half a century behind it, it seems that Apple has its sights firmly set on the future.
