iPhone users found an Apple CarPlay easter egg hidden in iOS 18

With the release of iOS 18, the Apple CarPlay app has received some subtle changes — but one of the changes is a hidden easter egg for old iPhone users.

Many iPhone users expected a big update from CarPlay to compete with Google after they had promised massive app improvements for Android Auto.

However, at its recent September event, Apple focused mostly on the iPhone and the Apple Watch.

Fortunately, there’s still the upcoming second-generation Apple CarPlay update that will bring a major app overhaul.

iOS 18 CarPlay updates

Apple released a few new features for CarPlay with the release of iOS 18.

One of the major features is Apple Intelligence, but it isn’t available on iOS 18 just yet and will show up on the next 18.1 update.

Once available, iPhone users will be able to use Apple’s new artificial intelligence software within the CarPlay display.

According to Apple, the voice control system is also now ‘specially designed for driving scenarios.’

Apple CarPlay now also has the option to change the color of the icons, with this you can change the tint of the entire display to a single-colored filter.

There’s also an option for ‘Bold Text’ for more visibility.

Easter egg

Along with the above improvements, Apple has also added a new home icon to Apple CarPlay with iOS 18.

Instead of the three slim rectangles stacked on top of each other, there’s a single rectangle that acts as the new home button.

The button’s design is a subtle nod to the original iPhone’s home button.

Holding this button also activates Siri for the voice control system.

Apple CarPlay 2.0

Apple is still working on a complete overhaul of the CarPlay app.

The update is said to bring deeper vehicle integration to the app.

As it will get access to more vehicle functions, including air conditioning.

However, only time will tell when will this update drop.
