There’s no shortage of cool creations to be found online – but this air vortex cannon looks heaps of fun.
The man behind the gadget is Joe Richards who, according to his Instagram bio, is a ‘veteran, artist, dad, science dude’.
The video below, posted to his channel, shows the wild air vortex cannon in action.

The purpose of the video is to demonstrate the air vortex cannon at increasing distances.
So, Joe stacked some empty soda cans in a pyramid shape on top of an upside-down plastic box in his backyard.
At 10 feet, the nifty gadget had no trouble tumbling the cans, the strong whoosh of smoky air knocking them over cleanly.
The self-same thing happened again at 20 feet, and then at 30 feet – although one can remained on top of the box.
At 40 feet, all but two cans toppled, but the big surprise came at 75 feet.
At this distance you’d have put money on the cans staying put, however, the air vortex cannon still managed to push over two cans.
It’s certainly a cool video to watch, but it poses the question – what was used to produce the smoke?
