Tesla China shares picture of next-gen Optimus robot and everyone's stunned by its hands

Tesla China has shared a picture of the next-gen Optimus robot, and everyone is stunned by its hands.

A fresh teaser posted by Tesla AI on Weibo appears to show a new version of the humanoid robot with eerily human-looking hands.

The proportions, finger shape, and overall structure look far more lifelike than many people expected, which is exactly why the image has sparked such a huge reaction online.

For a robot designed to work in the real world, that kind of detail could be a very big deal.

Rather than just showing off the, amittedly, very cool full robot, Tesla’s China tech team focused attention on one of the hardest parts of humanoid robotics to perfect: the hands.

That choice feels important because if Optimus is ever going to handle factory jobs, household chores, or delicate real-world tasks, it needs hands with serious precision and flexibility.

When we met the Optimus robot in Europe, we noted that the first version had good dexterity, but it could certainly be improved.

The new design looks strikingly close to a human hand, which immediately hints at improved movement.

That is a massive step for any humanoid robot, as hands are widely seen as one of the toughest engineering challenges in robotics, since they need strength, control, and fine movement all at once.

A robot can walk, turn, and carry objects, but without highly capable hands, a lot of useful tasks are still out of reach. That is why this teaser has landed with such impact.

Why everyone’s stunned by its hands

And honestly, it is easy to see why people are so fascinated.

The hands in Tesla’s teaser do not look clunky or overly mechanical; they look refined, natural, and surprisingly close to something you would expect from a sci-fi movie rather than a real product update in 2026.

That is a bold vision, but before any of that futuristic talk becomes reality, Tesla first has to nail the basics.

Judging by this latest teaser, those uncanny human-like hands might be one of the clearest signs yet that Optimus is moving in exactly that direction.
