Saying this secret code will unlock your Amazon Echo's 'Super Alexa Mode' immediately

Amazon Echo owners have discovered there’s a way to unlock ‘Super Alexa Mode’ and it’s like an old-school video game.

You just need to have an Amazon Echo, and all it takes is one iconic cheat code to activate it.

Anyone who grew up button-mashing on a Nintendo controller is probably going to recognize it instantly.

And while the mode doesn’t suddenly turn Alexa into a supercomputer capable of doing your chores, the response it gives is funny if you’re a big nerd.

How to unlock ‘Super Alexa Mode’

To activate the hidden mode, users of the Amazon Echo gadget simply need to say: “Alexa, up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start.”

If you nail the sequence correctly, your Alexa responds with: “Super Alexa Mode activated. Starting reactors online. Enabling advanced systems online.”

Things then get a little weird as it continues: “Raising dongers. Error. Dongers missing. Aborting.”

The entire thing is actually a giant reference to the famous ‘Konami Code’, one of gaming’s most legendary cheat codes.

The code first appeared in the 1986 game Gradius after developer Kazuhisa Hashimoto used it during testing to make the game easier.

It later became iconic in Contra, where entering the code gave players an extra 30 lives, instantly turning it into gaming history.

What does ‘Super Alexa Mode’ actually do?

Sadly, Super Alexa Mode doesn’t give your Echo any extra powers.

The assistant won’t suddenly start making dinner or predicting lottery numbers, but instead, it’s basically a fun Easter egg that Amazon added for gamers who know the reference.

The Konami Code has appeared in countless games, apps, and websites over the years, including titles like Rocket League, Dead by Daylight, and Tetris.

And Amazon’s iconic assistant isn’t the only device using the famous cheat code either; versions of the Konami Code have also popped up in assistants like Google Assistant and Siri over the years.

Enjoy, gamers!
