Apple Wallet added a Digital ID feature and these are all the ways you can now use it

The tech giant has been turning the iPhone’s Apple Wallet into a replacement for the things we carry every day, from payment cards to boarding passes, but now, its Digital ID feature is becoming even more useful.
The tool first launched as a way to create a secure digital ID using a US passport, but Apple has been expanding where it can be used.
And the latest update means there are now even more situations where you can leave one more card at home.
And you might not have to panic when you realize you forgot your passport at home when you’re already at the airport.
Apple Wallet has a Digital ID feature is gaining new uses
Apple introduced Digital ID in late 2025, allowing users to create a secure form of identification inside Apple Wallet using their US passport, bringing tech to the last bit of society that’s ruled by physical passports and paper Visas.
The company made it clear from the start that it wasn’t intended to replace a physical passport for international travel, but rather to offer a convenient way to prove your identity in certain situations.

Initially, the feature was designed for identity verification at select TSA checkpoints in the US, allowing travelers to confirm their identity using an iPhone or Apple Watch rather than reaching for physical documents.
Apple also said the system would eventually expand to other uses, including in-person and online identity verification.
That expansion has now begun.
According to a recently updated Apple support document, Digital ID can now be used to verify that a user is an adult when creating a new Apple Account or using certain Apple services.
This means people can use the Digital ID stored in Apple Wallet as an approved age verification method rather than relying on a physical ID or credit card.

What Apple’s Digital ID can be used for
Right now, Apple’s Digital ID can be used in the USA for:
- Identity verification at participating TSA checkpoints for domestic US travel
- Age verification when creating a new Apple Account
- Age verification when using certain Apple services
- Confirming eligibility for age-restricted app downloads and purchases
- Other identity and age verification scenarios where Apple Wallet Digital ID is accepted
Apple has also said that additional businesses, organizations, apps, and websites will gain support over time, suggesting the list will continue to grow.

The feature remains limited to users with a US passport and is currently available only in the United States.
Apple has also stressed that Digital ID is not a replacement for carrying a physical passport when traveling internationally.
As digital wallets continue to evolve, Apple appears determined to make the iPhone an all-in-one hub for payments, tickets, car keys, and now identification, too.
The latest update might not sound huge on paper, but it’s another step toward a future where even who you are is determined entirely digitally.
