Man is ditching his iPhone for a flip phone that looks ancient but might actually be revolutionary

A man has decided to ditch his Apple iPhone in favor of something a little less tech-heavy and believes that it could make him more productive.
While Apple and Samsung pretty much dominate the phone industry in 2026, there are some folks who are looking for something a little different.
Phones that do a bit less, like dumbphones, or ones like the Click Communicator, which is designed to stop you doom scrolling, have become more popular.
YouTuber and tech lover John Zoid recently decided to downgrade his iPhone for a simpler flip phone – and he was full of praise.

He swapped his Apple iPhone for this more basic flip phone
These days, most of us rely on our phones to do a whole lot more than just make calls and send messages – they function as our calendars, to-do lists, portable media players, and about a million other things.
As a result, there are people out there who are clocking up sky-high screen time scores and are attempting to spend less time on their devices by opting for a phone that does less stuff.

John Zoid decided against getting a full-on ‘dumbphone,’ but he did get himself one that is much more basic than an iPhone: the Cat S22 Flip.
The Cat S22 Flip looked a lot tougher than your average phone, and features a Gorilla Glass touchscreen display.
“It’s durable enough that if you put it under your truck tire and run it over a couple times, it actually won’t do anything to the phone because it’s just built differently,” he explained in the clip.
The flip phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 and comes with 2GB of RAM and just 16GB of storage, which can be expanded via a microSD.
Although the phone is offered without all the bells and whistles, it does run on Android, has a couple of cameras, and Bluetooth connectivity.
He weighed up the phone’s pros and cons
Because the Cat S22 Flip runs on Android, you can install a bunch of different apps on it, like YouTube, Google Maps, and Call of Duty – but how well those apps run varies greatly.

Overall, the basic ones – that you’d use for messaging, email, calendar, playing music, and navigation – all work fine, making it a good choice for a replacement phone.
The camera performed better than John expected and was fine for taking quick snaps, just don’t expect it to look quite as crisp as your current smartphone.
Unfortunately, the phone wasn’t compatible with Uber, and it doesn’t come with NFC, meaning you won’t be able to use it for tap-to-pay or to upload boarding passes, concert tickets, or your car key.
Nonetheless, John vowed to use the phone for a month to see if it could make him more productive and spend less time scrolling – and he seemed optimistic.
“If you’re looking for a minimalist device to help you detox from your day-to-day smartphone madness, this might be a good option,” he said.
Although he admitted that it probably wouldn’t be a good choice for someone hoping for ‘every feature’ of an iPhone.
