Apple's new iOS 26.5 update is here and these are the features that have been added

Apple’s latest iPhone software update, iOS 26.5, is finally here, and it’s brought some surprisingly useful additions with it.

While it’s not the massive AI Siri overhaul many people were expecting, the update still introduces several new features that iPhone users will probably notice immediately.

From encrypted messaging between iPhones and Androids to colorful new Pride wallpapers, Apple seems to be focusing on privacy and personalization this time around.

The update is available as of yesterday (11 May) to iPhones starting from iPhone 11 and newer, but some new features will be carrier and region dependent.

Apple’s iOS 26.5 update adds encrypted RCS messaging

One of the biggest additions in the latest iOS 26.5 gadget update is encrypted RCS messaging.

This means iPhone and Android users using RCS chats will now get end-to-end encryption, making conversations much more private and secure.

Users will see a lock icon and an ‘Encrypted’ label inside the Messages app whenever a conversation is protected.

Apple Maps updates

Apple Maps also got an upgrade, with the app beginning to suggest nearby locations directly inside the search bar.

The idea is to help users quickly discover restaurants, shops, and interesting places nearby without having to manually search for them.

Payments

Another feature that’s arrived with iOS 26.5 is support for subscription installment payments.

Instead of paying one large yearly fee for some apps, users can spread payments out monthly instead.

Apple has added colorful new Pride backgrounds to iPhones

Alongside the practical upgrades, Apple has introduced 11 new Pride-themed wallpapers as part of the update.

The backgrounds feature colorful animated light effects that shift and move as users interact with their phones.

Apple regularly releases special Pride wallpapers and watch bands each year, but this latest collection is one of the most vibrant yet.

While many users were hoping iOS 26.5 would finally bring Apple’s heavily rumored AI-powered Siri improvements, those upgrades still appear to be delayed.

Even so, the update still looks like a solid refresh for iPhone owners, especially for anyone interested in better messaging privacy and fresh customization options.
