The first official features for Apple's new iOS 27 update have been announced

Some lucky users have got an early look at Apple’s next major software update for iPhone – iOS 27.

Apple revealed the update during its Accessibility Awareness Day showcase, highlighting a wave of new tools powered by Apple Intelligence.

Instead of a dramatic redesign, iOS 27 looks more like a refinement release focused on improving everyday usability and accessibility.

The full update is expected to be unveiled at WWDC 2026 on June 8.

How Apple’s new update makes life a little easier

A big focus of iOS 27 for Apple is making its gadgets more intelligent and helpful in real-world situations.

According to Zollotech, VoiceOver is getting a major upgrade, with Apple Intelligence allowing it to better describe images, scanned documents, and other visual content like bills or personal records.

Users will also be able to press the Action Button and ask follow-up questions about what the camera sees, turning the device into a more interactive assistant for understanding surroundings.

Magnifier is also evolving, gaining a cleaner higher-contrast interface and new voice commands so users can zoom, adjust settings, or turn on the flashlight hands-free.

Voice Control and Accessibility Reader

Voice Control is also becoming far more natural.

Instead of needing exact app names or button labels, users will be able to describe what they want in plain language, such as opening a specific folder based on colour or content.

Accessibility Reader is expanding support for complex layouts like tables, scientific articles, and multi-column pages, while also adding on-demand summaries and improved translation that preserves formatting.

Together, these updates point toward a much more intuitive and flexible system designed to reduce friction across everyday tasks.

Subtitles

Beyond just iPhone features, Apple is also expanding accessibility across its wider ecosystem, including automatic subtitles being rolled out system-wide across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Vision Pro.

This means almost any video, including home videos, can now generate subtitles with custom styling options.

Name recognition is also expanding to 50 languages, helping devices detect when a user is being spoken to in real time.

Vision Pro

Vision Pro is getting some of the most interesting upgrades with new features that include eye-based control systems that could even help users operate compatible wheelchairs, along with face gesture controls for hands-free interaction.

Apple is also improving hearing aid support, making it easier for devices to switch seamlessly between iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro.

Overall, iOS 27 is shaping up to be a polished, accessibility-first update that makes Apple’s ecosystem smarter, more responsive, and way more inclusive, and what gets better than that?
