Apple's iOS 27 update is getting some amazing and long-overdue quality of life upgrades that'll have iPhone users ecstatic

For something we use every day, the iPhone still has a few surprisingly annoying limitations, but Apple’s iOS 27 update might be saving lots of people’s sanity.
One of the most persistent problems that people have to deal with is the way Apple handles different sounds on the device.
Thankfully, iOS 27 looks set to finally address that problem with a small but incredibly useful change.
And it is an upgrade that could make using an iPhone just that little bit better.
Apple’s iOS 27 update is finally giving iPhone users more control
For years, iPhone users have had limited control over the volume of different sounds coming from their gadgets.
While media volume for things like music and videos can already be adjusted independently, other sounds have traditionally been grouped under Apple’s ‘Ringtone and Alerts’ volume setting.
That means turning the volume up so you don’t miss an important phone call can also affect other sounds, including alarms and timers.

So if you crank up your ringtone before bed, your morning alarm can end up being considerably louder than you intended.
Turn the volume down, and you have the opposite problem, but you might get a more peaceful alarm, but then risk missing a call or notification because your ringtone is too quiet.
It is a tiny annoyance, but one that can become very noticeable when you use your iPhone every single day, you can limit your phone sounds to a maximum volume, but it doesn’t affect your ringtone, so it’s not very helpful.

With iOS 27, Apple is finally changing the way these sounds are controlled.
The update will allow users to independently adjust the volume for Ringtones, Alarms and Timers, and Alerts and System Sounds.
That means your ringtone can be loud enough to hear from another room while your alarm stays at a much more reasonable level.

Make mornings much less deafening
The change might sound relatively minor, but it could have a surprisingly big impact on everyday iPhone use.
Anyone who has ever forgotten to turn their ringtone volume back down before going to sleep will know the problem.
You might expect a gentle alarm the next morning, only for your iPhone to suddenly unleash a ridiculously loud noise at full volume.

With the new controls, that should no longer be an issue.
Users will be able to choose exactly how loud they want their different sounds to be, rather than having one setting dictate everything.
You could keep your ringtone turned up because you are waiting for an important call, while lowering your alarm and timer volume so you aren’t launched out of bed in the morning.
The same goes for alerts and system sounds, which can also be adjusted separately.

Apple hasn’t had to invent anything particularly complicated here, it has simply given users more control over something that has been unnecessarily restrictive for years.
For iPhone owners, that could make iOS 27 an update where the smallest changes end up being some of the most appreciated.
